Olympic 4x4 Products Sierra Rack

The Sierra Rack that is made by Olympic 4x4 Products is meant for use with the Jeep Wrangler CJ, YJ, TJ, JK and the Jeep Cherokee XJ.  It will fit model years from 1976 to 2015. 

The Sierra Rack has a unique mounting system that doesn’t require any drilling for installation.  All that you have to do is position the Sierra Rack for cargo in the middle of your spare tire as opposed to putting it above the spare so that you don’t have to compromise on the visibility that you have above the spare.

Once you are ready to install the Sierra Rack, all that you need to do is take your spare tire off and  put the mounting plate that Olympic 4x4 Products has already pre-drilled over your lug bolts.  Now just put your spare tire back into place and you will be ready to hit the trails.  The tube that you will mount the Sierra Rack on goes through the middle of your spare tire so that is can accept the telescoping tube which is what the Sierra Rack actually slides onto.  This system allows for you to use the telescoping system to take the rack off when you are not going to be using it.

So, what is the Sierra Rack anyway?  This is a cargo rack that is made for Jeeps and it goes directly behind your spare tire.  This is the ideal way to carry water, spare fuel, a camp stove, camping gear or even a cooler.  Since the Sierra Rack is installed behind the spare as opposed to above it, you do not lose any of the visibility through your rear window.  When you are not using the basket/rack, you can remove it easily and then just put it back on when you need it again. 

Some people do actually just stick the Sierra Rack onto their rear bumper.  However, this means that you will need to compromise on the weight capacity of the rack.  When it is on the bumper, it only has a capacity to hold 50 pounds.  When it is installed properly through your spare tire the weight capacity is 250 pounds when you are traveling on the highway and when you are out on the trails the weight capacity is 125 pounds.
